Frequently Asked Questions
About Candy People
What is Candy People?
Candy People is a Swedish-founded confectionery house. We source authentic Swedish candy, build retail programs, develop brands for global markets, and distribute some of the most distinctive candy in the world. We have been doing this since 1982.
Is Candy People a Swedish company?
Yes. Candy People was founded in Malmö, Sweden in 1982 by Joanis Masudi Youssef and remains family-owned and managed today. Our US headquarters supports retail and distribution partnerships across North America, and our US-facing direct-to-consumer store ships nationwide.
What is Lördagsgodis?
Lördagsgodis means "Saturday candy" in Swedish. For decades, Swedish families have treated candy as a once-a-week ritual rather than an everyday snack — spending Saturday picking and mixing their own assortments from walls of 100 or more varieties. This tradition shaped Swedish confectionery culture: higher quality standards, more variety, and a real emphasis on texture and flavor. It is the culture our candy comes from.
What makes Swedish candy different?
Swedish confectionery is texture-forward, sour-driven, and built around variety. The Lördagsgodis tradition meant that candy had to earn its moment — so the industry evolved to prioritize genuine flavor complexity, distinct textures (foam, gummy, licorice, marshmallow), and real ingredient standards. That is a different product than most American candy.
Is all your candy made in Sweden?
Not all of it. Our heritage and expertise are Swedish. When sourcing products from other countries, we adhere to Swedish standards and traditions. Our brand Vegobears is produced in the United States. We are transparent about where each product comes from — that transparency is part of what we stand for. If origin matters to you for a specific product, you can find that information on each product page.
What brands do you own versus distribute?
We own S-Märke and Vegobears. We distribute Bubs in the United States — a Swedish brand that meets our quality standards but is not owned by Candy People. You will find some candy that we do not own in our mixes. For example, we do not own any of the Rambo (licorice) candies, but instead source them from other European manufacturers. All products on our site are held to the same sourcing and quality expectations, regardless of ownership.
Products
What kinds of candy do you sell?
Our assortments include sour gummies, foam candy, licorice, marshmallow textures, and more — reflecting the full range of Swedish pick-and-mix culture. We also carry curated collections, sour drops, seasonal items, and giftable boxes.
Where can I find ingredient and nutritional information?
Ingredient and nutritional information is listed on each product page. For packaged branded products, full details are also printed on the packaging.
I have an allergy. Can I eat your candy?
Allergen information is available on each product page. Many of our products are produced in facilities that handle common allergens including dairy, wheat, tree nuts, peanuts, soy, and egg. If you have a life-threatening allergy, please review the full ingredient information carefully before purchasing. When in doubt, contact us directly and we will do our best to help.
Is your candy gluten-free?
Some of our products are gluten-free. Note that many of our products are packaged in facilities that also handle gluten-containing products, so cross-contamination may occur.
Is your candy certified kosher?
Our candy is not certified kosher at this time.
Shipping & Orders
Do you ship nationwide?
We ship to the contiguous 48 US states. If you're in Hawaii or Alaska, you can find us on Amazon as well.
How long does processing and shipping take?
Orders are typically processed and shipped within 3–5 business days. You'll receive a confirmation email when your order is placed, and tracking information once it ships. During peak seasons and holidays, please allow additional time.
What about warm weather?
Gummy candy can be sensitive to heat. During warmer months, we recommend being available to receive your delivery or having it sent to a temperature-controlled location. Once a package is out for delivery, we are unable to redirect it.
Can I make changes to my order once it has been placed?
We process orders quickly, so changes are not always possible. Contact us as soon as possible after placing your order and we will do our best to accommodate you. We cannot guarantee changes once an order has entered processing.
Do you accept returns?
Because our products are perishable, we are unable to accept returns. If you receive a damaged or incorrect order, please contact us within 7 days of delivery and we will make it right.
Gifting & Events
Do you offer gift cards?
Not at this time.
Can your candy be used for events and parties?
Absolutely. Swedish candy pairs well with weddings, birthdays, client events, product launches, and more. We can accommodate bulk orders and help you build the right assortment. Reach out to discuss your event.
Wholesale & Retail Partners
Do you work with retailers?
Yes — retail partnerships are central to what we do. We work with specialty grocers, natural retailers, gift shops, and more to build Swedish candy programs that drive velocity and differentiate the category. We offer branded assortments and private label development.
What is private label? Do you offer it?
Private label means we develop and produce candy using Swedish confectionery recipes and expertise, but branded under your retailer's name or a store brand. We have been building private label programs for retail partners for decades. If you're a retailer interested in exploring a custom Swedish candy program, contact our sales team at orderusa@candypeople.com
